High School Guys One Year Outreach Plan

We want the youth to be impacted through the lives of adults directly investing into them. This design creates opportunities for existing mentor relationships to be built and new relationships to be formed. This design targets opportunities for mentors to speak into the lives youth.

This project is written with the assumption that there will be only one leader/mentor at the beginning of the year. The project is designed to allow and encourage additional leaders to become involved during the year. Our goal is not to achieve numbers but to achieve strong, organic, REAL mentor relationships between strong adult leaders youth.

Basic Design

organic connexions model

Integrating the model into everyday life

  • Constant contact. Each leader constantly interacts with the guys He is working with. Organically hanging out with them, and then speaking into their lives. Interacting at least three or more times each month on top of causal interaction.
  • Four main events during the year (One every Quarter)
  • One adult leader/mentor for every three youth (or less).
  • Preferably the leader/mentor is the Child's parent
  • Each individual youth is assigned an intercessor. The intercessor commits to praying daily especially during the events.

The leaders will choose projects for the quarterly events out of the issues they know these guys are struggling with. this is the core reason for this constant relationship / quarterly event scenario. The mentors know and care for these guys, and inside of this structure there is plenty of opportunity for these mentors to truly impact the lives of these guys. The concept being used here is "Leaders build leaders."

Sample Short Term Event:

High School Guys Expedition

short term learning event

Our goal is to have 1 leader (Strong Christian adult) per every 3 youth, and it is preferable for that leader to be the Childs parent.

  1. Four day event. (flexible)
  2. wilderness island (Flexible location)
  3. 1 or more mentors (3 guys per leader)

This is a wilderness expedition. Backpacking, swimming, camping out under the stars, and all the other outdoor activities that go along with the great outdoors.

The main impact of this event will come through the leaders interacting in these guys lives during this event. Here is the basic schedule for the event:

  • Morning: 1 hour personal time with God. Half hour team worship and devotion time.
  • Daytime: A time of fun and challenging events; Hiking, building rafts, and many more purposeful events that will be used to make a point that evening during reflection/ instructional time.
  • Evening: Reflection and teaching takes place around the campfire. During this time we will reflect on the object lessons that took place during the day, and what we learned from the scriptures that morning. This is the instructional time of the event.

Specific projects / resources to be used inside this event:

  • Unhealthy Thought Patterns*
  • "Foundations" By Malcolm Webber**

*Within this context we will not actually complete this project in its entirety. Instead we will (as the leaders) know the project completely and then relate the essentials through scripture during the evening reflection time.

**We will choose a core topic from this book to relate to the guys during the evening reflection / instructional.

Summary

  1. Constant interaction = relationship & knowledge about what’s going on in the guys life.
  2. Use this foot hold to intentionally design learning experiences that will help them in the area's that they are struggling in.
  3. Implement these learning experiences inside quarterly events.

This model could easily be used for either a male or female audience.  I am using it for high school guys, but simply create your learning experiences according to your audience.

Please comment with your suggestions or ideas since I am currently using this model, and new ideas would be a huge help.
