1.  What do you hunger for and thirst for in life . . . really hunger for and thirst for?  Where and how are you trying to shake that thirst and satisfy that hunger?

2. Now, read Psalm 42.  How do you relate to what the Psalm writer is experiencing?

3. There are various causes that lead us to spiritual dryness.  Such as, Dullness of heart – Matt 13:15 + Mk 4:19; Preoccupation with self – Luke 9:23; Being tested by God – example of Job; Stagnant in spirit – Zeph 1:12; Legalism – Matt 11:28-30; lack of forgiveness – 2 Peter 1:9-10; Sin problem – Ps 66:18; and many others.  What causes did you identify from the outline that have caused you to a spiritual dryness.

3. Pray through the list of causes, especially the ones that you circled and talk to God about those very issues and what you should do about them.

4.   Reread Psalm 42: 6 and write down in your journal your “Jordan” experiences with God, your “Mountain top experiences”, your “Mount Mizars “which seem insignificant but have been life changing for you.  Share your story(ies) with your group.

5.  Pray with your group for a fresh zeal, passion and thirst for God (Read and pray through Psalm 63 as a group)

6.   Which “detox” challenge(s) will you choose to commit to?

a. Transformational challenge:  Make a fasting – reading the Word and obyeing the Word commitment  — Rom 12:1-2

b.  Missional challenge:  Make a commitment to take a risk to open up a conversation about spiritual things and point people to Christ — Matt 5:14-16

c.  Investment challenge:  Make a commitment to be a generous giver to the work of the Lord — Matt 6:21

Declare your commitment to your group and allow them to keep you accountable to your commitment.

7.  Memorize the verse the corresponds to the cause of your thirst and meditate on it so you obey what God says.
