1.  Together in your group, list what you know of the promised Messiah.

2.  In your group reflect on this:  If you were living during the Old Testament days how do you think you would reconcile the coming Messiah as “Coming on the Clouds - Dan 7:13 and also “Riding on a donkey” - Zech 9:9.  That He would be both Lion- Gen 49:9 and Lamb - Isa 53:7 and that He would be both Branch of Jesse and Root of Jesse - Isa 11:1,10).

3.  In your group, answer this question:  Can you cogently explain that the Messiah would be one person who would suffer first before He would reign in glory?  What verses would you use to demonstrate this?  (see Luke 17:21-25 and Acts 17:2-3 for assistance).

4.  Also read Luke 4:17-20 and notice where Jesus stops reading and closes the scroll. Now read the Old Testament passage from which Jesus was reading - Isaiah 61:1-2 and notice where Jesus concluded His reading.  What does this tell you about Jesus’ understanding of His coming?

5.  The Jews in Jesus’ day were not looking for a Messiah to redeem them personally but a Messiah who would deliver the nation.  They were looking more for a political-military deliverer.  One of the sects of the Jews, the Essenes, understood the Messiah to be both priest and king.  There are indications they may have thought that the Messiah would actually two Messiahs: one as Priest and the other as King.   What Scriptures would you use to demonstrate that Jesus is both priest and king and that our hope is not in one coming of two Messiahs but one Messiah (Jesus) in two comings?

5.  What specific predictions from the Old Testament do you know and can explain to demonstrate how Jesus fulfilled the Messianic prophecies regarding His suffering.  Why do you have confidence that He will fulfill the predictions regarding His coming in glory?

6.  Read, The Case for the Real Jesus by Lee Strobel and discuss with your group.

7.  The Miracle of the Messiah is that He gives eternal life to all of those who receive and believe in Him - John 1:12, 1 John 5:11-13.  First question - Do you have Jesus?  If not, ask someone you know who is a follower of Christ to share with you how you can become a Christian.  Second question - Does Jesus have you?  Are you pursuing Him?  Are you in fellowship with Him?  Are you obeying Him?  What needs to change in your life to make this happen? Who do you know who can help you?

8.  Pray and thank God for His gift of the Messiah - Jesus and eternal life.  As an act of worship offer yourself to God.  Offer your ordinary life — your sleep, eating, working, what you hope for, your children, your disappointments, your loves, every little thing and place them before God as an offering.  Rom 12:1 Message Paraphrase.
