IntroductionWhat is the most alarming cultural trend affecting teens and young adults today? Is it substance abuse, breakdown of family, sexual sin, materialism, cheating? No. It is narcissism - an idolatrous love affair with self. This learning experience will address this issue and help emerging leaders become Christ-focused.
Our Goal
· To help kids shift their eyes off of themselves, and onto Jesus.
· To biblically address the idolatry of self-absorption of young people.
· To help kids live a life to the glory of God, rather than to the glory of self.
Process Teaching: Jesus turned narcissism on its head when he tells his disciples, “if anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23). Teach our kids what it means to place God – not self – at the center of life.
Corporate Worship: Foster worship of the audience of One. God isn’t the performer in our worship services; he’s the audience. Examine, evaluate, and choose worship elements that focus on the character, acts, and will of God.
Blessings of a crisis: Think about the rollercoaster ride the Israelites took in the Old Testament. They went back and forth between self-centered idolatry and humble worship of the one true God. It took a crisis to bring them back to a humble attitude of worship of God. The times of crisis are hard but they are also life-giving times of blessings. Give your emerging leaders a controlled, safe crisis situation. Then talk about how they got through it.
