“Adoration”

Context:        Family

Focus:           Christ

Purpose:       To understand and experience the importance of adoration and praise.

Exercise:

1. (Individual) Read Psalm 150.  Then write your own words of praise that are similar to the tone of adoration in Psalm 150.

2. (Family) Spend time in worship and praise using a few of the NEW words of adoration from each of the members of the family.  Take several minutes each morning for a week praising God with Psalm 150 as your model.

3. (Family) Read aloud I Peter 1:3-9.  As a family discuss these questions:

  • What does it mean to be born again into a living hope?
  • Have you rejoiced in your present sufferings?  What kinds of trials have you faced and how did you respond?  Why should we rejoice in trials?
  • What has Jesus Christ done for you?  How can  you respond to Him to thank Him for His love and sacrifice for you?

4. (Family) Discuss in your family the things or people in your life that you adore.  How do you show your adoration to them?  Now, what does “adoration” mean when we consider God?  What differences or similarities do you notice between the earthly objects of our adoration versus our divine creator?  What specific ways this week can you show and express adoration to God?

5. (Family) Pray as a family.  Try to make the first petitions of your prayer this week to be those of praise and adoration.  Do not let yourself begin with your needs or from within the context of your life.  Instead, begin your prayer against the backdrop of the greatness and majesty of God.

6. (Family)  Praise God with a songs or hymns.
