“Consecrate Yourself”Doctrine of SanctificationContext: Family and children Focus: Christ Purpose: To understand that God is holy and we must consecrate ourselves so that we can be holy. To learn about the doctrine of sanctification.Exercise: - (Family ) Tell about times in your life when you have been set apart or separate for a certain task OR when you have decided to do something that is “counter-cultural”.
- (Family) Study stories in the bible when God “sets apart” a person, place, or thing in order that his purposes might be accomplished. For example: In Exodus 29:43, God sanctifies a place of worship. As a family, write down at least ten verses that relate to God sanctifying a person, place or thing and discuss them.
- (Individual) Read 2 Timothy 2:21and pray for wisdom and understanding. Ask yourself how you can be a “vessel for honor” and how you can be “useful for the Master.”
- (Individual) Study Acts 1 and Galatians 5:16. What is the gift that the Father gives so that we can be sanctified? Are you quenching this gift or yielding to it?
- (Individual) List ways that we inhibit or stop the process of sanctification.
- In your journal, write down practical steps you can take toward sanctification.
- (Family) Read Numbers 15:37-41. Take an 8 inch blue cord and tie it around your right wrist. This will be a reminder to you that you should be “set apart” for God. Think of ways that you can step up your level of sanctification this month and tell your mentor or prayer partner so that he/she can pray for you and hold you accountable. With your prayer partner, read 1 Thessalonians 5:23 and pray this over each other.
- (Individual) Pray and decide what you can set aside for a period so that you can be set apart to God. For example: you might want to give up T.V. or computer games so that you can spend that time instead purposely in relationship with God.
